Local (Colorado) Training
August 10, 20101 - Domestic Violence Custody Cases: Making Safety the First Priority and Children's Potential the Second Custody courts developed practices to respond to domestic violence at a time when little research had been
conducted on the issue. Now, the research is available and it demonstrates that the standard practices used by
often unqualified professionals are working poorly for children. With thousands of children being sent to live
with abusers, and too many children dying, urgency is needed for reforming a broken, custody court system. The workshop will take place from 8:30am-4:30pm (registration begins at 7:30am) at St. Cajetan's Auraria Campus, Denver, CO. Registration fee is $75 ($35 for students) and includes lunch. Click for more information and a registration form.
Septemner 1, 2010 - A Coordinated Community Response to Elder Abuse Sponsored by the Justice Project for Older Adults of Denver and its founding member agencies, this FREE interactive seminar with national trainers, Bonnie Brandl and Carol Thompson of the National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life will take place from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM. Wells Fargo Bank Hershner Room, 1740 Broadway, Denver.. The
training was created for the Enhanced Training and Services to End Violence and Abuse of Women Later in Life Program, U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women. It is estimated that elder abuse occurs in 5% of the homes in our communities. With the nation’s elder population expected to double by 2020, the abuse of our oldest citizens could have a severe impact on our community, criminal justice system, and current service delivery. Participants will learn to build a coordinated
community response that enhances victim safety and is victim-centered. For more information or to register, email Linda.loflinpettit@denvergov.org or call 720-913-4979.
