COVA manages the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) federal human trafficking grant for the state of Colorado. Through this grant, COVA has an in-house case manager for all cases of international human trafficking in Colorado and manages the statewide network of service providers – CoNEHT.

CoNEHT assures the appropriate and accurate identification of human trafficking victims in Colorado through awareness and information activities, as well as through the development and implementation of statewide human trafficking training initiatives.

CoNEHT also manages the development and coordinated use of a comprehensive, statewide network capable of meeting the unique needs of human trafficking victims including, but not limited to: case management, interpretation, food, clothing, shelter, emergency medical assessment and treatment, legal/immigration assistance, mental health treatment, dental care, and transportation.

Any agency that has provided, or is interested in providing, services to a victim of human trafficking is encouraged to contact the Project Manager about working with CoNEHT. CoNEHT trains and recruits agencies that have experience in providing services to victims of crime in working with survivors of human trafficking.

CoNEHT runs a 24-hour hotline. This hotline can be used for an emergency line for victims to call directly, a line to request trainings or information about human trafficking, and a tip line for community members to leave information about a suspected trafficking situation. Anyone interested in becoming a trained hotline advocate may contact the Project Manager.

Please call the COVA Office and speak with the Human Trafficking Project Manager, Annaken Mendoza-Toews, for more information.

January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month

Calling all anti-Human Trafficking activists! President Obama has declared January as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. January 11 is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, and COVA invites you to honor all the people who fall victim to human trafficking in our Colorado communities, the United States and around the world by taking action to learn more about the issue and help raise awareness to end this violation of fundamental human rights. Anytime between now and February 1, which is National Freedom Day, please take time to read about human trafficking, engage in conversation with friends about this issue, and learn how your lifestyle might unintentionally contribute to the exploitation of vulnerable people without you even knowing it! Together, we can do something to end this crime, both in our communities and in the world.
