COVA Trainings:

Picture
COVA can help you meet your training needs! We currently offer trainings for professionals and volunteers working with victims of crime and trauma.

COVA Trainings at Member Facilities:
For COVA Organizational Members, there is no charge for us to bring the training to you! For non-members, there is a charge of $200 per training. There must be a minimum of 12 participants for training sessions. We may be able to design a special training to meet your needs, identify someone to provide the training, or discuss alternatives if you don't see a training that fits your agency's needs below.

COVA Hosted Trainings:
The COVA Hosted Training Program provides monthly trainings organized and facilitated by COVA at our facility. The trainings are free to current COVA members. Training topics will differ each month to address the needs of our membership.  This program is designed to enhance the availability of the COVA training program by giving organizations an alternative to hosting trainings at their own facility. However, we at COVA are still committed to providing quality trainings to any of our members anywhere in the State of Colorado. This program does not replace that commitment. Just ask, and we’ll come to you.  The trainings will be held in COVA's Training Room. The address is 90 Galapago Street, Denver, CO, 80223.  Pre-registration is required, since class space is limited. To register, please call Dan Griffin (Training Coordinator) at 303-996-8082, or e-mail your registration request to dan@coloradocrimevictims.org. When registering, please provide your first and last name, your organization name, and a contact phone number.

Shame and the implications for Restorative Justice, Howard Zehr, Center for Justice and Peace building. The topic of shame has become a controversial issue in restorative justice. Shame occurs in the lives of those who have harmed, those that have been harmed, and in all of our lives. Restorative processes often give rise to shame, for example, as one begins to realize the harm she or he has caused. Should we be actively encouraging shame? What are the dynamics of shame in restorative processes and how can we manage these? Can we help in transforming shame into a sense of pride or accomplishment?

June 17th - 20th: The Briefings: A National School Safety Symposium at Columbine
Location: Columbine High School, Littleton CO
For more information please visit http://thebriefings.org/Contact: Ellen Stoddard-Keyes: 303-838-1188 ellen@iloveuguys.org

The “I Love U Guys” Foundation announces “The Briefings:” A National School
Safety Symposium at Columbine, June 17-20, 2013, Bailey, CO
This three-day symposium, held at Columbine High School, examines lessons learned from recent tragic events and reveals new, preemptive school safety measures growing in multiple realms. Those presenting at this year’s Symposium include school administrators, law enforcement, criminal justice and mental health professionals who were involved in the
response and recovery to recent school violence and other emergency events. The Symposium is designed to provide a number of takeaways that districts, departments and agencies can implement immediately. During the presentations and panel discussions, attendees will learn how best practices for school safety are shifting, the challenges facing school administrators after a violent event, resilience, threat assessment and more. Some of the topic content has not been publicly disclosed, and will only be presented at this Symposium, making this an extremely unique opportunity for the audience. “In the years since the events at Columbine, there are proven leaders in the art of school safety,” says John-Michael Keyes, Executive Director and co-founder of The “I Love U Guys” Foundation. “These experiences and studies, along with new learnings from recent violent events, continue to reshape planning and response for active school violence. This symposium offers tangible takeaways and first hand insights that are essential for any practitioner.”
Audience: Law enforcement, school personnel, victim advocates, mental health professionals, emergency and risk management staff, school safety teams and all first responders.
Hosting Organizations: The “I Love U Guys” Foundation, Columbine High School, Jeffco Public Schools (R-1), Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Colorado Attorney General’s Office.
The “I Love U Guys” Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring and

protecting the joy of youth through educational programs and positive actions in
collaboration with families, schools, communities, organizations and government
entities. The Foundation was created after Platte Canyon High School student Emily
Keyes was killed in her school on September 27, 2006; it was named for the last text
message she sent while being held hostage.
